What does the writer mean by ‘convention’ and ‘register’ in this context?

Answer Convention is body language impacts on verbal understanding. In the same way, readability is affected by design.

Register is ……..(don’t know)

Why are abbreviations so popular? What does ‘TTFN’ mean?Do you know and use any more?

Answer One of the reason is because they are shorter than the regular forms. These abbreviations are only clear to those who understand them. For example “B2B is stand for business to business”, and “IYSS is if you say so”.

TTFN means ta ta for now (A shorthand appended to a comment written in an online forum)

Yes I do know but I’m not really using it.

To what extent is email writing ‘informal’ ?

Answer There is no extent for the email writing because email is always informal.

What is an ‘emoticon’? Do you like and/or use them?

Answer It is ;-) , L, :-D, and etc. They are called emticons and have a certain limited use in place of sentence stops. I usually use them on msn chat room.

How can you make best use of the subject line?

Answer -make the subject concise and easy to understand
-make it short
-make it interesting

The subject line must contain all you want to tell people instantly whether they need to open the email and read on.




What are the advantages/disadvantages of a chat room?

Answer advantages

-can not hearing the tone of voice (emotional)
-misunderstanding

Answer Do not assume that all outrageous messages are intended to inflame opinion (they may be clumsy attempt at humour or lack of familiarity with the medium).

How can you make it easy for people to read and understand your messages?

Answer describes the content of your message clearly in the subject line and keeps that subject in replies to the same conversational thread. Send short messages that can be clearly understood on their own. Make sure your message is written in a style that is friendly, appealing, and logical, and Use short paragraphs. People are overwhelmed by large pieces of text.
